    Hello,
Name is Dwayne I work for United States Air Force and currently overseas in Korea. I watched a video online of a custom straight razor made from start to finish, and got me thinking why don't I try this. I have thick beard and spend a lot of money on disposable razors. I bought a kit from Vintage straight razors and I really am excited for it to come in. I will be reading a lot hoping to learn some good techniques. Thanks

Welcome to the club my friend. It's a great set of hobbies and skills to learn. I started out in a similar fashion. Be patient and don't get discouraged. It's all about beard reduction rather than beard elimination.

    Which razor/kit did you get?

You don't have to be insane to do the things that I do, but it helps.

Welcome, Dwayne. There's no better place to start your straight razor journey -- a journey which, ironically enough, is rarely straight.

Thank you, I bought the 170$ kit off of vintagestraightrazor.com The blade itself is unknown till I get it. I just know it will be a German vintage blade. Also it comes with a strobe, mug, brush, soap, and a leather travel pouch. Hoping I made a decent purchase. haha

    Greetings, Dwayne.

First, thank you for your service.
Second, there is so much to learn here. I'm pretty new as well. Read, ask, listen and watch videos.

Before you know it, you will have multiple razors. They multiply.

    Good places to be:
Straight Razor Place Wiki - Straight Razor Place Wiki
    http://straightrazorpalace.com/begin...ead-first.html
    Videos

Note that your razor will probably not come RTS (Ready to Shave) even if they claim it is. So, you will need to strop and you don't wanna ruin your strop or your edge. Your destination will be over here:

Remember patience, slow and steady and angles are important. Watch more and more how to shave type videos, making lather, etc.

    Siguy

ps-do you have a link to the kit you purchased?

Hi and welcome. Seems like one of the kits you wait and see what you get although if the name brands they were using is what you get it should hopefully be a decent razor. They also state pro honed so should be shave ready. When you start shaving watch your angles keep your pressure really light and make sure you plot your hair growth so you know which direction to shave in.

Hi Dwayne. Just wanted to say that all my old vintage blades shave as well if not better than the new Dovo and Thiers Issard I have. Good luck.
