finally taking the plunge
Hi everyone,
Finally taking the plunge.
Have been thinking about it for a while now and then i found Lynn and Geofatboy on youtube
Totally new to this, have been shaving with cartridges for the last 20 odd years, so basically i have no idea, Lynn's video's are very informative - thanks Lynn.
I hear that a 5/8 razor is a good beginner size, so i have been looking for that.
Below is what i will be getting in 2 weeks - any comments ? what do other people think is a good beginner razor ?
Men's Biz Deluxe Straight Razor (Cut-Throat Razor) Kit | Men's Biz
Also getting some bloodstop gel and a pre-shave oil.
I think i have the basics covered with this but if anyone has some extra idea's please throw them my way
regards
the newbie.

Dovo Razors are GOOD. Looks like you will NEED to have it honed to actually be SHAVE READY though..

Thanked: 1184That looks like a very nice kits to start out with. Be careful with that strop and learn how not to nick it. Hate to see a grown man cry. :<0)
+1 on finding a good honer to make it perfect. Dovo factory sharp is not a good start.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Yes - you need to get it honed by a pro to get it shave ready...that's simply a must-do!
Looks like a great kit, similar to the one I started with. I still like the 5/8th blade the most. I've got a range from 4/8th to 8/8th and the smaller blades, for me, I simply enjoy more and get better results with.
After some time, you'll know what you like, but the 5/8th is definitely a good place to start...

Welcome to the forum. My story is much like yours. Just wondering how many Lynn and geofatboy have helped get into SR/wet shaving. BTW my first SR was a Dovo as well. Getting it professionally honed is critical.
Lots of guys here are pretty new at this including myself but the ole timers are cool about helping out and mentoring. Have fun.

There are blokes scattered everywhere over that side of the country. Know there's a few blokes in the Sydney area. Think Oz might be around that way.
