    Default Hello

    Hi guys

An excellent and informative site you have here.

I've asked a couple of questions and got lots of great help so thank you.

Moved from Mach 3's to DE last year, made a world of a difference even with a brush and razor that were quite low end compared to whats in the market,

Have made the plunge to straights, or will do when my filly strop and mikes natural soap and my Whipped dog silver tip brush arrive

picked up a thomas wilkinson straight 5/8 from ebay and got it honed…so once it is all in my possession the shaving will begin!

    Welcome rowdi!

You picked up a razor and got it honed...that's a perfect first step...shave ready is vital to start this journey!

Watch the video's closely on stropping, the spine on the strop, rolling the spine to come back, slowly.

Many members here recommend a bench strop to begin with, either way, proper stropping is vital in order to maintain your blade and to prevent rolling the edge on your razor. A rolled edge will basically kill your shave.

It's important, unless your an expert, that when you start, you don't lift the blade off the strop, not only can that roll the edge, it will most likely cause you to nick your strop and damage / roll part of your blade.

I learned this the hard way...

    Cheers and welcome!
