Thanked: 1I was going to ask the same question - I know they hone razors & knives and sound knowledgeable.
There's one chap Michel who uses a coti on his own razors at home. Not sure what kind of job they would do though. I also know they have started holding razor evenings; basically a bunch of enthusiasts getting together to talk razors
Where abouts in the city are you based Badgister? I'm pretty close to downtown (near knifewear coincidentally).
I'm pretty new to the forum too, sounds like a good number of fellow forum members in ottawa

I live in Montreal, when in Ottawa I stay in the Westboro area.
Razor nights, that sounds like fun!

Thanked: 0Thanks everyone for feeling welcomed.
I am pleased to see this place is so active!
@BobH
- Probably the honemeister thought it was best not to go to far, perhaps being safer since this is a family piece from grand-papa.
- Poor technique, could it be? But I've been youtubing nonstop! Good point Bob, maybe I should wait before pulling the trigger on a new razor...
@ Badgister - You are correct sir! Knifewear is a newer shop. Michel was 'the' razor guy that the store manager made sure I'd hook up with with and not another staff member. He is young and shaves with a straight, but definitely does not have decades of experience. A fellow Ottawan will surely have suggestions. Where is Cangooner when you need him?

At least the feller uses a straight himself, decades of experience honing the odd razor for a customer (and lets be honest, most knife sharpeners probably won't get that many razors through their doors) is probably less useful than having spent a few years with your own razors that you use daily.
That's not to say be did a good or bad job, just an observation.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast
