Just got my first razor as a gift from the wife. Not the quality I would have chosen, but it is the thought that counts. I'm from buffalo, Iowa just down the river from Davenport. Looking forward to talking to everyone.

    Welcome to SRP,

I have to say the "Not the quality I would have chosen" part of your post is a bit well unnerving....

Glad to have you on board, the Wiki and Library are full of information.

Feel free to pose any questions you may have.

    Regards
    Pat

She got me a Pride Cutlery razor. In her defense she like most other people assumed that a razor is a razor is a razor. I've been doing my homework on straight razors for a while...Suffice to say, I would not have purchased this blade for the purposes of shaving. It is probably going to require a professional honing, it is plenty sharp, but not sharp enough for shaving. Another assumption of the wife is that I can sharpen it just as easily as I sharpen my knives, swords, etc, she doesn't understand the differences in blade cross section, and the difference between a hollow ground blade and a standard knife blade. Essentially it was a very heartfelt gift from someone who had no idea what they were purchasing. LOL.

Hi and welcome. Atleast it is a razor capable of holding an edge and not a razor from the to avoid list. Get it honed and grab a strop and start shaving. As said check the library for all your starter info and technique basics while your waiting for your razor so you'll be ready when you get it back. You will need a second one for rotation purposes soon anyhow so you can get something nice then.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
