    Default Hello from Nor Cal!

Just thought I'd pop in and introduce myself.

My name is Kevin (no surprise, considering my forum name—the '78' refers to my high school grad year, NOT my age. I'm older, but not quite THAT ancient!) and although I've been wet-shaving for a number of years with DE razors, I have just begun the process of straight razor shaving. I recently acquired my first two SRs. My first strop. and my first stones for honing. I have YET to shave with my newly-acquired razors, but this situation will soon change.

I look forward to participating in these forum threads, and hopefully can contribute something of worth to the conversations. There is so much information and experience here that I have spent weeks reading and taking notes on the whole SR process. Now I get to participate.

    Kevin

Welcome to the forum Kevin. Sounds like you're half way there, being a DE user.

My favorite DEs are the Merkur Futur & the Mühle R41 (2011 version); both about as aggressive as shave as one can get with a DE razor. The next step, of course, is going with a straight. Using those aggressive DEs have allowed me to develop a good level of concentration, a very light touch, and to respect the edge of the blade and how it relates to the curvature of my face. I've also gotten use to using both hands while shaving so my non-dominant hand is fairly capable. We'll see how all this translates to the SR shave.

You'll have it down in no time then. Angles will be the thing with the cut-throat for you. Get them right and Bob's yer Aunty.
