Thanked: 0Hello from Southern MD
I normally do not post anything on forums. I normally prefer to read them and use them for advice and reviews. For many years my mornings have been filled with bad shaves. Then this year I was looking for a pair of tweezers and stumbled onto a website of DE razors, soaps, creams, etc. Since then I have added the straight razor to my weapon of choice. It has been exciting to be challenged by this skill of man shaving. Maybe it is me, but it seems to me that we avoid doing things that are a challenge. By learning how to shave with a straight I not only have been learning a technique of shaving, but how to care for the razor and strop. I have enjoyed using different products. I have discovered time to meditate and take care of myself for thirty minutes every morning. Most of all I am looking forward to passing this on to my son. He is five and I can wait a few years, but I have determined that man shaving will be how he will learn. (DE first.) I know I rambled a bit so allow me to bring this to a conclusion by saying this has added something to my life. No regrets.

Welcome tjrose1 to SRP. I can see that you have absorbed a great deal of knowledge from your reading and don't really need the usual admonitions given to eager new str8 users to slow down and take small steps. By now you know that all you have to do is post a question and every conceivable answer, from the ridiculous and humorous to the sublime, will be forthcoming. What's even more enjoyable in your post is where you have discovered the fact that str8 shaving centers oneself and makes progress toward a better life possible. Welcome again and we look forward to answering any questions you might have.

Welcome fellow wet shaver,
I concur with what you have said and what Razorfeld iterated. My boys have shown an interest in it already, my oldest son is grown and I started the sport to late to save him. My middle son watched as my red irritated face went to the way side and he will probably be honing before he can shave. My youngest (also 5) made me make him a straight razor and he enjoys shaving with Dad. My youngest daughter wants to start using a DE and already uses creams and a brush. The misses rolls her eyes sometimes as the topic at the dinner table can turn to wet shaving at times. I tell her she does not have to be left out .
Not only do I find quality time for myself with wet shaving but it has also brought much of my family together in another activity.
I look forward to seeing your input when you deem it appropriate and I will see around the forum.
Enjoy and Regards

Hi and welcome. Many of us look forward to passing this on to our children but for some reason our wives seem to reject the idea of upgrading the shaving experience.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

I'm glad to hear that you have found this hobby which you seem to appreciate a lot.
I don't think that what you said about people not getting in to straight razor shaving because it's difficult is true in all cases. For some people it might be. For me it was one of the reasons I started doing it. Sometimes it's more fun to do something that takes skill than something that doesn't.

Thanked: 0Ludvig, for me one of the reasons I got started is because of the challenge. However, the average person tells me it is so hard and dangerous. I just believe we are living in a day when many shrink from a challenge.

Thanked: 0My wife too thinks it is strange and unsafe, but that is ok. I am working on her to use a DE and some soap and a brush. HEHEHE.
