    Default Hello from Florida

Hello everyone, I have a small collection of straight razors starting with my grandfathers and my fathers straight razors. I bought a Robert Williams razor with a Henckels blade and his handles, I also have a custom by Jim Smyth that's a special one not really designed for shaving your face but its kind of a tactical razor because it has a blade stop and a detent to keep it closed. I will post some pics once I figure things out here. I don't use any of them for shaving but the Williams would be the one to use its a monster. I look forward to some interesting posts and talking about things I love knives and razors. Thanks

Welcome to Straight Razor Place. This is the place for everything "Straight Razor". Take the time and browse the library, if you have questions ask them there is always someone willing and able to answer. Can't wait to see your pics. Better yet I can wait to see how long it is before you start shaving with a Straight. Once you learn there's nothing like it.

Thanks, we will have to see about using a straight razor first off my Williams is not sharp enough for a clean shave anymore I guess I fooled around with it when I first got it and was cutting things I should not have. It's still very sharp but I might pull to much to be comfortable, so I will have to get a set up to sharpen them before I take the plunge.

Hi and welcome. As said the library has all the starter info, what you need, honing, pretty much everything one place or another. The search at the top is also very useful. Shaving with a straight is a great deal of fun and very addictive. It's not something you'll look back from. Its generally recommended for your first razor at least to get it pro honed so you know what is classed as truly shave ready. You would also need a strop and is advised for brush and soap as well. A cheaper strop is advised as you will nick up the first one. Any questions ask away and will try to answer as much as possible. Good luck

Stick with the real razors, as you know. That JS isn't even a practical knife let alone a razor. And his 'Hell Razor' is just as bad if not worse. Box cutters are what I would call them.

Get your Grand dad and Dad's razors cleaned up, honed and stick with them. Post your JS in the http://straightrazorpalace.com/finer...edc-knife.html thread, or http://straightrazorpalace.com/finer...at-knives.html, or better still http://straightrazorpalace.com/finer...ollecting.html. We cater for many and varied interests here, so don't feel that I am putting down your knives. Many here will tell you that is the last thing you would get from the likes of me and my own...healthy...interest in them .

Welcome to the forum and feel free to ask for guidance or raise any problems you come across.

Shows how much you know he is one of the finest knifemakers out there and that razor has features that you can't even comprehend. So for you to say its not even a good knife just shows you ignorance, I don't know who you are but you sure don't know much about custom knives, you might know straight razors but that's about it. I think your comments are rude and uncalled for but I'm sure everyone will side with you so needless to say I won't be back jack, I just joined to get a case made anyways and they could not even get the color or size right so there trying again but I don't have my hopes set to high just like your opinion I don't think much of this place.

Sounds not so much like I stirred your pot, as you're just a bit biased yourself. And as you say, you just came here for one specific reason that had little to do with an interest in using cut-throat razors, and you obviously don't think much of people who go out of their way to get the case you want, just right. Instead you have decided to use my post as your excuse to throw a tantrum. That's fine with me. The people here are gentlemen, and if they thought I was out of line, they would back you up all the way. So please, get over yourself and stick around. You might learn how to use your inherited razors properly, and maybe one day pass the tradition on to your own sons...And for what it's worth, I used to make customs knives myself, so yes, I know a thing or two about them. Especially what is practical, and what is not.

I am unsure why you joined a forum to get a case made, was a vendor offering a discount to members of This forum? Anyway sorry to see you leave if that's what you decide to do. Though it may be beneficial for you and Mick to work out your differences, and stick around. I am not taking sides here either, I don't know enough about knives to say whether micks comments were fair or not, maybe a bit blunt though.
    All the best

I never fond much use for beating around the bush Ed. I do tend to be blunt...Unlike my knives and razors which happen to be the sharpest tools in my box .
