Welcome to SRP jtopher. I'm quite new as well, I've been shaving with a SR for just almost 2 months now, also started with a Shavette and now moved to a full straight razor just this past weesk.

I have two different blades that I alternate daily, a Dovo and a Theirs-Issard... and I'm absolutely in love with this type of shaving.
I used to hate shaving, I used the mach 3 cartridges and shaved once every two weeks or so, after starting with the straight I actually look forward to shaving every day.

    Cheers from Rainy Vancity!!

I hear you! I have to shave daily (work requirement) - so it was about time shaving became fun again...

I ordered a starter kit that comes with a bunch of goodies! I already have some soap, and brushes as well. And styptic pencils - used a few of those

yes I even had them hone a couple of razors.
they have some nice stuff but be prepared to pay premium dollars.
there are great alternate sources if you take the time to check around.
I can help you out in that regard.

I ordered the holiday kit from The Classic Edge Shaving Store Your Straight Razor Specialists. - comes with a DOVO standard 5/8 Straight Razor which I figured would be a good place to start... but I've caught the bug and have already found a TON of razors I want!

I'm interested in all the Vintage razors too - but am a little intimidated on buying old and used...

The Dovo I bought is a used one, I bought it from one of the classifieds on the forum and it's a beauty.

If it's from a reputable vendor or a known member on the forum I believe you are safe.

Phil and Jane at Classic Edge have been very good to deal with. The razor will drive shave ready straight out of the box. Don't strop it, just prep, lather and shave. Most of us here have a ton of product as well. If you are looking for some samples or personal experience just pm us and most of us will be happy to give you a leg up. As far as buying used vintage blades goes take your time. I'm sure I'm not the only one here that has bought to quickly and spent more for less than we should have. There is no talking prices on the forum but most here will be happy to tell you about the condition and quality of what you are looking at.

    regards
