Thanked: 1Hey Ya'll
I just thought I should stop in and say hello. I am brand new to this form of shaving (actually my first straight razor should be here tomorrow), so I know I am at the bottom of the learning curve. I have wanted to shave with a straight razor for many years, but I just didn't have the time to start it.
I retired from the military in September so I think that this may be a good time to start. However, I will be looking for another job soon so the fun part of retirement is just about over.
I live in McClain County Oklahoma near the town (but not in it) of Dibble. If there's any local Okies on here then howdy to you too.
Well that's about it, I just wanted to say hi.
Jeff

Welcome aboard. Just take it slow and easy. Only do the cheeks at first. There are numerous threads to read and videos to study. All of us hope you find the enjoyment and satisfaction that comes from using a great blade.

Thanked: 1Thanks Dave and souschefdude. I'm used to being on forums where I am giving the advice. It feels kind of strange to be the total nubie.
Oh and souschefdude, if it's OK with you I will try to give it some time before I am able to provide you with that cut myself pic.

Welcome to the forum Jeff,
Lots of great information and people here, I don't know how much poking around you have done but check out the links up top to the Library and Wiki.
There is a ton of great information in there for the beginner and even the more advanced shaver.
As far as the picture of the new razor, that a soon as you get it kinda thing
For the cut.... no rush... it will happen but let that happen on it's own accord.
We do have a few Okies here so some hands on help may even be available for you.
As always feel free to ask any questions you have.
Enjoy the journey

Thanked: 1Thanks for the reply pfries.
I've been doing a lot of reading and watching quite a few videos and getting ready to be nervous tomorrow when I stick a completely bare/no safety device razor on my face. I've always been very practiced with knives and have skinned out a lot of hides. I just hope I don't get mixed up and start skinning.
Thanks for the encouragement.

Relax and start slow, If you step into it with respect for the tool and not a fear of it you will be better off.
Push it only as far as you are comfortable, the stubble will grow back I promise
It sounds like you have done your homework, set up your plan of attack and stick to it.
(Unless you are planning on attempting a full shave and it is not going so well).
Keep us posted on your progress,
and don't worry I have skinned and fileted more than shaved and my face is still attached.
May your blade be sharp, your lather good, and your touch be light.

Thanked: 1Thanks Pat,
I'm mostly just trying to be a little humorous. The only part that really causes me any real doubt is using my left hand for the left side. My left handed skills are very poor, but on the bright side what I am better at with the left hand is the small motor skills so it should work out just fine.
I won't be nearly as nervous as I was the day I pulled the trigger for the first time on an experimental rifle cartridge that I designed and formed and calculated the load for and was firing it in a rifle I designed and built myself. That took either guts or stupidity and I'm not sure which it really was that got me to pull the trigger. I did have pressure test equipment connected so after the first shot I was confident it was safe.
If I do end up nicking or cutting myself, it sure won't be the first time. I'm pretty old now so I started out shaving with DE razors and as good as they are, it took me a few screw ups to learn not to move them sideways while they were touching skin. I think I have that down now though.
Thanks again, I'll report back tomorrow evening.
Jeff
