    Red face New addiction

    Hi everybody!

After wanting to be able to use a straight razor for years, I finally took the plunge a few months back, and got myself a nice kit consisting of an Iwasaki razor, a Naniwa whetstone, a Jnat and a Kanamaya strop. Maybe not things one would think of for newbie, but my love for all things Japanese got the better hand of me (and my wallet agrees). Now I've used the Iwasaki a few times already, and had it honed by Maksim in Denmark. I can get a decent shave from it on my cheeks and neck, but not yet on my chin and lip. I want to use the hones I already have, but am afraid of ruining the edge on the razor.

Now my question to you is, does anybody have old straight razors that I could use (buy) that need sharpening, so I could practice a bit? I watched countless videos already (among them Lynns), and will order the DVD too. But ideally I would want to be able to use the stones on my razor without ruining it.

However I am located in Belgium...

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've seen that all of you on here are eager to help each other. Maybe one day I can pass my knowledge on to someone else

    Thanks!

One of the things I have just started doing is swapping razors with a couple of guys. The concept is that we sharpen each others razors and then try to offer input as to what may make the edge better. So far so good. I have a few razors but a guy only wants to sharpen the same razor over and over so much, and with only your own input you start to wonder if you are getting better or just getting use to your edges. Perhaps yu can find someone in belgium to work with and swap blades with or perhaps even just someone else in the EU. Good luck. If you don't find anyone pm me

    Welcome to SRP

One of the best things you can do is meet with others in your area for some 1 on 1 time.

I did a quick search of the SRP member database and here are 44 guys with a location of Belgium

    Hope this helps

Welcome to the forum mate. I can't help you with razors. I've just what I use and nothing more in my collection.

Have you looked at tradera (it is a Swedish eBay) they seem to have a few razors for not too much. Have you loooked in the want to trade section or the classifieds. You could also put an add in the want to buy section. I don't think you are allowed to ask to buy things, or offer to sell things in the general forums.
Depending on what grit stones you have your scope may be limited with regards to doing full honing.
Sorry I should have said welcome by the way.
