Thanked: 22Hello from Tasmania
G'day to all ..... my name's Joan. I'm a razor tragic!
I've been 'lurking' for what seems like years around this forum, but finally decided it was time to come out of the shadows and 'publicly' meet up on the forum. Some of my 'razor mates' have been encouraging me to join for ages, so here I am. [Some of you already know me from the AKC (Australasian Knife Collectors Club that we closed in 2011) and knife/razor articles in Knives Australia magazine (2001 - 2010).]
Coming in from a knife-collecting/making background since I was very young, razors caught my attention back in the late 1990's when I first purchased a 7-day set of Jno Baker razors as party of our research on Australian knife history of that firm .... and since then, my collection of razors has kept growing. Some good buys, some not so good- but the number has swelled significantly and almost embarrassingly.
After an initial clean and rust-control, its down to researching the manufacturing history if a 'new' brand to my collection .
At first I guess I just accumulated razors but more recently have specialised in razors with an Australian link, spending time to find the history on what firm and where ....
Regards
Joan

Hey Joan!
Welcome to the forum and don't worry, we're all a bit tragic here so you'll fit right in!
You should show us some pics of your collection, it sounds pretty amazing already, plus without pics, it didn't happen
I myself have a nice Jno Baker that I cleaned up and is a damn good razor to use.
Nick.

Welcome to the 'Place Joan'.
Looking forward to your input & some pics of the collection won't go astray either. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Welcome. Where in Tassie?
Please post those pictures with the certainty we have people here who know the difference between embarrassing and just plain ridiculous."We'll talk, if you like. I'll tell you right out, I am a man who likes talking to a man who likes to talk."

Welcome Joan and thank you for the information on the "London Stores Ltd" opposite G.P.O melbourne.
That particular Wostenholm razor was bought last year (IIRC) from an Aussie vendor who was selling a whole bunch
with an Aussie connection, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Kalgoorlie etc. I could afford just the one as bidding was
very fierce !! Looking forward to seeing your examples of Australian-related razors.
