    Default Hi from Goose Bay

    Hi Guys,

My name is Paul. I have always had problems with bad inflamed skin on my face after shaving so 3 years ago I grew a beard. I shaved it off on Monday, after my first shave my face was sore. Anyone else had the same problem ? Would shaving with a straight razor help ?

    Paul

It may very well be better than the scraper your using now. At least a better chance of doing something about it. Along with a straight or any wet shave you have lots of ways to prep your face and treat it after. Someone will be along that has has problems like you are and be of more help I am sure. I think your headed in the right direction if you want a nice experience shaving. This is why the rest of us are here. :<0) Welcome to SRP !

I might add that wet shaving has a little learning curve to it. This you will find out as you read. The Library is full of info if you get impatient.

    Welcome to the forum Paul.
I have vey sensitive skin, a cartridge razor took a few days to heal from.
unfortunately I can not grow a full enough beard to look respectable and have always had to maintain that.

When I took my moustache off for Movember it was a bit tender but not terrible and it has only been clean 3 times now in 25 years.

With a straight I can now shave everyday but it did take a while to get good enough with it to do it comfortably.
Then I started honing and it took a while to get back to that point with my edges.
It can help but it does take some effort from you to get there, and if you try to shortcut it, it will only take that much longer.
In my opinion it is worth it Paul and it does help.

I used to grow a beard every winter and shave it off in the spring. The skin is very soft underneath after the beard, and shaving with a cartridge did hurt. Now that I'm a wet shaver, I don't even entertain the idea. It's that good.

Hi Guys,Thanks for the welcome, pixelfixed Goose Bay is located in Labrador in Canada.I have ordered some skin food, shaving brush, soap and mug for now. I think these items will help untill I start learning the art of shaving with a straight razor which will be next year. Lots to learn. Looking forward to getting to know you all.Paul

Hi and welcome. Many of us have suffered irritation with days in between shaves to recover. We sought out the straight razor to help rid ourselves of this problem. Now you would have problems trying to stop us shaving. It will take a bit but is worth it. Good luck.Ed
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
