Syrio from France
Hi!
I am a translator, living in France. I translate English-speaking TV programs (or films) into French, either for dubbing or for subtitling. So I work from home. The dog sprawled at my feet might tell you that no, I don't work, I do Facebook and watch martial art videos. But she's just a dog, so what does she know?
Last October I went to India (oh boy, what a trip), and was shaved there, in the street, by a professional. And so I very recently bought a straight razor, my very first. Yesterday I tried it and did a good job of butchering myself. I hope to find advice here, and may also use the classifieds, should I become as much of an addict as some people here seem to be.

Yes, we are all. one kind of, or a combination of addicts. Razor, brush, soap, bowls, scuttles, you name it. Singular or multiple addicts that enjoy the ritualistic act of shaving with a straight, a DE, a SE or a Kamisori. Please start by reading all that the wiki can offer (and it's a lot). Please refrain from thinking you can hone your own till you have been having successful shaves. Don't buy from eBay unless the French eBay has better razors available. And above all, ASK, ASK, ASK! With the number of members around someone will have the answer or know where to point you for the solution. Welcome and enjoy the ride - at times it's like a rollercoaster.

Thanked: 3226Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear of your not so great first shave with a straight razor. The wiki Beginner's guide to straight razor shaving - Straight Razor Place Wiki has already been mentioned and is a good primer. By all means ask questions as they come up, people here are very helpful. Hope we can make your entry into this hobby a little smoother.
