Starting Fresh in Idaho!
Hey guys, I have been lurking on here for a while since one of my buddies lent me a shavette and gave me the link to this forum. I've finally made the plunge and have picked up a couple-ish razors from antique shops and ebay. Some of them are in pretty crummy shape and I'm excited to work on refurbishing them, I've got plans for antler scales on one (picked up an antler shed today!). Anyways, I am excited about this new hobby and learning more about what in the world I'm getting myself into!
I've purchased a couple of pucks of soap but they will see limited use until I send off one of the blades to get honed. I am still looking for some of the other little things, strop, bowl, ect...
Oh and that RAD thing is really, really contagious!

Thanked: 13245Welcome to SRP
Good to see another Idahoan on board,, just a heads up we do have a quite large and active PNW membership up this way and normally have two Meetups per year in the area...
If you can make either or both I think you will find them quite informative

Sounds like you have a good friend that lent you the shavette and told you about this forum. Welcome to SRP!

Thanked: 4826Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you have noticed all the information. There is a pro that lives in Idaho, he should consider sending him your razors. It is a short shipping distance and I hear he is amongst the very best

Thanks guys, yes a good friend indeed! I have seen a bunch of stuff regarding the group up here in the PNW and was impressed that the meet ups, that I saw, were in Spokane and Yakima as I grew up in the Tri-Cities. Gssixgun, I believe that my friend actually sent a SR to you to be honed, unless there is someone else in Sandpoint who hones, I may follow suit once I get one of these nasty buggers in decent shape.

Welcome to SRP along with a stab of jealousy for being within hand shake distance of gssixgun (Glen). He honed a couple of C-MONs for me that are still singing beautiful songs. Have more in the wings to send his way.

Hi and welcome. Start with with those soap pucks now. That way you will have your lather sorted when you start with the sr. Plus will only help with the current shaves. Good luck. Ed

Yes, SR's and guns are significantly easier to sneak in than horses!
As far as using the pucks, I will practice getting a nice lather but I gave Guthriemt back his shavette and will have to use the electric razor until I can get a honed edge on the Handy O.L. Warren 4/8 hollow grind that I found, it is in the best condition of all the razors that I acquired it already has a set bevel, just needs that finishing touch up."Bore Brother Bore!"
