Thanked: 0Hello From Alabama
Hi guys, I'm a short time lurker on here , and decided to go ahead and join up, I'm a knife nut at heart , and in my passion of sharp things I have began to look into razors. So far I have a el cheapo shavette I believe is what they are called, (the ones that take half a Safety razor blade), but recently I visited my grandparents house, and much to my surprise my grandmother pulled out my grandfather and great grand fathers shaving kits. Since My great grandfather is deceased of course I told my grandmother to hold onto her fathers razor, but my grandfather gave me his what I've come to hear it called now is a gillette fatboy.
I have super sensitive skin and I was looking for a way to be able to keep a "clean face " but using the latest and greatest cartridge razor left me with 2 things one was a very irritated face If i really tried to get a close shave , so I normally just , went one pass with the grain and was done. After using the old DE Gillette and even the shavette thing I can say I'm hooked from now on, not only am I getting close shaves, but I can shave more often and it's great!
Anyways I know this was a long winded post and I apologize, but I look forward to learning all I can from you guys, and hopefully one day I can give back as well.
So far I have the shavette thing, the Gillette safety razor, brush that I picked up from the beauty supply store(not the best, but before I dropped a ton of cash I wanted to see how I liked the shave, and some shave soap from Wolly World, again I know not the best but I wanted to be budget friendly first to make sure I liked what I was doing before going in and buying any higher end equipment, I'm also obsessed which hones and it seems like this place has more knowledge about hones than any place on the web!Last edited by Ranger; 01-06-2014 at 04:59 AM.

Thanked: 0To see my Great Grandfathers razor and brush and even his bowl has awesome , my grandmother shared with me stories about how when he got back from WW1 he couldn't shave himself so she shaved him with the razor , so that is why I told her to keep his kit, but it was an awesome piece of family history, I told her I would get it one day but for now for her just to keep it, If i did have it I don't believe I could use it. Too much sentimental value.
