Alex from New York
Hey, my name is Alex. Im 24 years old. I started using double edge razors about two years ago. I found my first straight razor at a flea market four years ago, but never got around to getting it into a shave ready condition. I since have no idea what happened to that one. More recently I started grabbing straight razors I found at estate sales. I have a Boker, a Waterfall, and a Joseph Rodgers. Finally began using a straight razor about a month ago.
I am interested in refurbishing the Joseph Rodgers, as it is just a blade with no scales. I hope to eventually make my own scales and refurbish the blade, when I can afford it.
I have taken several welding courses throughout my life, and am currently seeking employment. My lack of real world experience is making it difficult for me, but eventually Im sure something will come along. I know the work is out there. I also play guitar and am attempting to teach myself drums.
This website is amazing and has so much great information. Im really glad I came across it and I plan to use it to learn as much as I can.

Welcome to SRP, Alex!
If you haven't already, I would start in the "Getting Started" section of the Library (see the "Library" link at the top of the site) to get a good understanding of the basics. The info there is rock solid and invaluable for those who are new to straight razor shaving.
Also, we try to be a helpful bunch on here and foster a great community for our members, so if you ever need help, don't hesitate to ask.
Third, you may want to reach out to any members near Buffalo (or attend a local meet up when one happens near you) who could give you some in person lessons on the basics. This will be FAR, FAR more helpful than just reading the info, as you can watch and listen and get feedback in real time from someone with experience.
There is a learning curve, but it's not that bad if you heed the advice and knowledge shared freely here.
If there's anything we can do for you, just let us know.
Again, welcome, and I look forward to seeing you around the forum!"Willpower and Dedication are good words," Roland remarked, "There's a bad one, though, that means the same thing. That one is Obsession." -Roland Deschain of Gilead

Hi and welcome alex! A lot of guys using straights started with de razors and already having started one form of wet shaving your transition will likely be smoother than if you didn't have that experience, so good for you. Keep your chin up with the work situation, a lot are in the same situation. You have skills and no where to show them off! But hey, lots of spare time to practice with straights. That's a plus eh? Feel free to pm anytime you need advice or just a simple chat! Morgan
