Thanked: 0Young guy from New Brunswick Canada (photo included)
Hello,
Came across this site while browsing the internet for information regarding my grandfathers Wade & Butcher McAvity's Special that my father gave to me. Although VERY interested in the art of SR shaves and everything that goes along with it I was very hesitant to make any purchases until I started reading through the Beginner forum. I have to say, what a TON of great info!
After spending hours in the forum and surfing different SR sites comparing beginner sets, I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Dovo 5/8 INOX Stainless Straight Razor Set currently offered through Classicedge.ca .
I have to say.. I'm pretty friggen excited for it all to arrive and in the meantime i'm going to try and locate a full service barber shop in the city where I can experience a professional SR shave.
I know it will take a TON of practise and time but I'm excited to start learning about this art and to incorporate items that my grandfather would have used such as his shave mug that I was also given.
Thanks for taking the time to read.

Nice intro Spiffy and welcome to SRP.
So you've done some research which is good,.. then it won't come as a complete surprise if this hobby grabs you by the short hairs and takes you down the long and slippery slope.
I have to say.. I'm pretty friggen excited for it all to arrive and in the meantime i'm going to try and locate a full service barber shop in the city where I can experience a professional SR shave.
As far as that shave, it won't be anything like what you will be able to experience yourself.
Unless you take in your own straight they will probably use a disposable razor which I find gives a rough shave.
Nothing could be finer than shaving with a freshly honed razor that your grandfather used.
Don't hesitate to ask questions as you are able to tap into a vast amount of information and experience.

Thanked: 3228Hey and welcome to the forum. You should be off to a good start having done your homework and bought a shave ready razor from a reputable vendor. Remember slow and easy does it and it does take some time too. Do yourself a favour and get Grandads B&W honed up if you want a real treat. Not much bets using a family heirloom.

Thanked: 0Wicked friendly group here, thanks for the advice!
Told pops today that I'd like to send grandads SR out to get professionally honed and he said "YES of course, do it!".
With that said, should I use the same place where I made my starter set purchase? (classicedge.ca)
Thanks again for the hello's and advice.
