Thanked: 1How 'bout them Noles?
Can you guess I'm from Tallahassee?
Been "wet shaving" for almost 40 years, we just called it "shaving" tho. Went to the dark side (electric) for a while in a mistaken attempt at "time saving" and misplaced my dad's Gillette fatboy, so was using cheapo disposables between beards.
Neighbor had an extra slim adjustable and some old straights, so we are trying to learn how to sharpen the single edged ones while "getting by" with the slims. Hopefully by the time we use up the 100 Astra blades I just got, I'll have it figured out. Bought a shave ready from a member here so I'll have something to judge my results by.
Thanks for all the info here, it's helping me make progress.
ETA: Forgot to add that back when I was only a couple years into shaving, I asked a barber for advice on choosing and maintaining a straight, and he said "don't waste your time, stick with the safety razor, kid".Last edited by aephilli; 01-13-2014 at 12:40 AM.

Hi and welcome. Most of the basics and starter info can be found in the library. The search at the top is great for more specific info. Check youtube vids by Lynn Abramms and Gssixgun for honing info. Good luck with your honing. Ed
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Thanked: 4828Welcome, if you are in the learning mode there is a lot of reading and videos here and a lot of wise people to answer questions.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 1Thanks for the encouragement, I've got an old "Gold Krone" (hope that's not like a "Gold Dollar" LOL) that I've gotten kinda sharp, but not quite there yet.
