Thanked: 0Hello from the Windy City
Recently started wet shaving and wish I had done this years ago. What a great experience. But also the community built around it. You guys are awesome. Since I'm new I don't have much yet just a silver tip badger, Boker Radium, strop, but have the Naniwa 5k, 8k, and 12k on the way from Lynn. Today I picked up two razors from the antique shop which are very dull which prompted the purchase of the stones. I am a big fan of learning and then trying to do things on my own (I have messed up a lot as well). So hopefully once the stones arrive I can get them sharp and enjoy a good shave. And I'm sure I will have a ton of questions along the way.

Boxer,
Welcome to the forum, glad to have you on board!
Sounds like you're off to an aggressive start. Not bad, I did the same, but a little more challenging through the learning process. The more you take on in the short term, the more variables you have to juggle and it "can" get a little frustrating. Don't get discouraged in the short term, and ask when you need to, there's a lot of help here on the forum.
Sharpening a razor is different than anything you've ever sharpened before. The only real similarity is you're rubbing steel on a hone. Here's a link to some excellent videos by Glen (gssixgun) on honing and you'll find the Naniwas included in them.

Also, here's a search of SRP using the search function at the top right of the page for your Boker Radium if you'd like to read posts pertaining to it. http://straightrazorpalace.com/forum.php
Below in my signature line you'll find a couple of links that will help with that first straight razor shave. One's an article and the shave test is a video....good stuff!!
Enjoy!!
Best Regards,
Howard

Boxer10, if you happen to be from the Chicago area ("Windy City"), Gonzo4str8rzrs has been organizing a get-together for us locals to practice honing and socialize. Looks like the date is February 1st. You can find a thread on it here, and in the Chicagoland forum. No pressure, but I remembered the name of this thread and wanted to let you know!
Keep your pivot dry!

Thanked: 0Thanks for that deep weeds. I will check it out. Unfortunately I will be traveling to NY for business then but hopefully there will be future meet ups which would be awesome to join and get to know a few people.

Thanked: 983From the windy city?! Well to me that says you come from Geraldton in Western Australia, but I'm supposing you mean just another windy city like it
All jokes aside, welcome to the forum mate.
