    Default Hello from So Cal

Hello all. New to straight razors and full of questions. I have just received my first blade and strop.
    Blade: Dovo half hollow 5/8
Strop: Premier Strop Co 3" latigo

I received the blade still in the factory case and it appears to be sharp but not shave ready sharp. My first question is should I just strop it or have it honed by a pro before I touch it? As it is brand new I thought I could get away with using some chromium paste on the backside of the strop to bring the edge out, then leather stropping it until it is shave ready

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You'll likely need to send it to a pro for honing. But, I don't see any reason you couldn't experiment with CrOx to see if you can get a more shaveable edge. Good luck!

Hi and welcome. It will probably take honing to be truly shave ready but will possibly be able to shave ok of the crox. It's hard to say ss the edges vary so much from factory. My suggestion is that you get it pro honed and know that you are starting shave ready. Good luck. Ed
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
