Hi there from NZ
Greetings everyone been stalking this site for a few weeks and finally decided to sign up and get in the mix. i have only just started shaving with a straight edge and apart from forgetting to not use HER white towels to dab the spots of blood I am getting hooked on learning to get this sussed. I am starting with one of those shavettes not sure I like them I think the blade moves in its seat, and are in the process of putting a bevel and edge on a Acron i got from a second hand store. I really enjoy this site. and are learning a lot from my readings. though like my barber and I were saying the other day, reading and videos will only get you so far you need to do it! that being said I look forward to contributing to this fine place( even if its all my what not to do's )

Thanked: 24Hello Partner,
I'm pretty much a newbe to this site as well but, I've shaved quite a few times so, welcome. There are those who like those shavettes. For me such is not the case. My advice is to work up that proper razor you have and lighten up on the touch, stretch the skin. Take more than one pass and especially learn how your beard grows. What you are looking for is when that straight blade becomes natural and no longer an unnerving task. Then your shaves will be extraordinary. And, one last thing, learn stropping well. Get it down pat. Learn to enjoy the opportunity to strop and you'll reap the benefits. Or more importantly, the little lady will.
Happy Shaving.

Hello my friend I agree with the taking your time I think my muscle memory is of using disposables, and I would whip them across my face in no time flat! Its definitely A whole different kettle of fish. I enjoy the challenge of slowing my world down and focusing on the task at hand And its sort of akin to smoking a pipe in the case of slowly slowly.

Thanked: 1Hi all, sounds like we are all in the same boat. I have been learning the art of sharpening more so than shaving at this point and I believe I am getting somewhere. I agree Chasmo stropping and a decent strop has made a huge difference. Great place this. C ya round

Thanked: 24Yep, it's all about quality and enjoyment. Don't rush it, neither honing nor shaving.

G'day and welcome to the forum. I'm not a fan of shavettes. The ones that take the half DE blades are the worst IMO. Feathers and Kai's are OK but nothing beats shaving with a real straight.

I know a lot use those dovo shavettes but they are more appropriate for cutting hair as they enjoy catching hair inside of them and pulling facial hair, I much prefer the Hess ezy shave with Persona blades, but still nothing better than a real genuine original sr shave, rarely use a shavette on me or customers.
