Thanked: 0Hi from Virginia
This is a great forum. I've been reading it for a while and decided to join. I have been tempted to get into straight razors for years and finally got to it after some months back being introduced to the Rolls Razor by my father. What an ingenious little device. After getting comfortable with the Rolls, it completely brought back my interest with straight razors. Like all of the other little hobbies I get into I was a bit apprehensive to take on another interest that I knew would end up costing me more money than it should but I was already going down that slippery slope so the result was inevitable. Here I am and I'm lovin it
I have bought some razors on ebay -- some just for collecting and some to use. The first one was not really shave ready and it reminded me of my first shave with the rolls! The learning curve was evident and I've been meandering through it. Sharpening edges and general edge maintenance is not something new to me but there is a huge difference between an acceptable edge for the kitchen, the shop or the outdoors vs one for the face as I quickly learned. All of the help in this site as well as on youtube from those here and in the razor community has been great.
Places like this are great for helping those of us that often learn the hard way.

Welcome Paul! I'm also in VA, and relatively new. I have had such a great experience learning the basics of this wonderful money/time black hole. I'm in va beach, where in va are you?
State v. Durham, 323 N.W. 2d 243, 245 (Iowa 1982) (holding that a straight razor is per se a "dangerous weapon").

welcome. glad all the info was of use for you. never not ask questions here, cause that's what we're all about!
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 0Hi Joel. Thanks for the welcome. Too funny that you added time to the money part! Its amazing how much time I spend online these days. the most recent has been learning about this coticule stone from belgium…absolutely fabulous stuff!
I'm about an hour outside of DC right next to the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western Loudoun County.

Welcome to the forum. There is a vast amount of knowledge to be had. Try and take in as much as possible and try some of the ideas. What works for one person does not work universally in what I have found in my shaving with straights short history. Good luck and ask many questions.
I am very appreciative of all the knowledge and sharing each and everyone has provided me with. Look forward to future endeavors with many of you.
