Thanked: 0Hey all; coming from Missouri
Hey all,
Had wanted to take up this form of shaving for a while, and figured why not now/soon. Picked up two old razors, a 1720 Ern (I think it might be a Cross and Sword, but it only has the logo, not the wording) with original box (lol at the $2.50 original price compared to nowadays), and a Korn of some sort...got the Ern for $50 and the Korn for $10. The Ern's scales are off kilter with one cracked at the pin (didn't notice that until I got home =/ on the bright side, the scale seems solid..?). The Korn..honestly, I can't find much info on them, but the markings are almost entirely gone, which is probably why it was so cheap (plus, worse condition). Had to angle it perfectly to see it, and there's some beautiful work on the opposite side that I think would've once been the model, but that's too far gone for me to ever decipher (well, at least without a loupe). Obviously, haven't cleaned them up at all yet; going to go look for sandpaper soon actually, don't think I'll have any luck finding polish though. Some place locally had a strop, so I picked that up (2" hanging, leather-linen by some brand called Rite Edge..can't find hardly anything about them, nothing about their strops)..but, pictures:
I'd love to know if any of you have suggestions on a honemeister or whatever the prefered term is; obviously the classifieds, but if there's someone who could fix the scale on the Ern for cheaply also, I'd appreciate that info. Also, if you have any suggestions on metal polishes..no one has MAAS locally, and I'd prefer to not order if not entirely required..also, not sure if this belongs in intro or the straight razor forum, but it's more an introduction I suppose..?
Well, nice pseudo-introducing myself, I look forward to getting to know the site better!

Welcome to SRP
oldblades has a pm inbound I will presume with some of the info you requested.
Both blades look to have some issues but should be savable.
As for polish I use Blue Magic from the auto parts store (Advanced and O'Reilly's carry it over by me).It is just Whisker Whacking
Relax and Enjoy!

Thanked: 0Indeed! And ironically, I just recently got back from Autozone with a thing of Blue Magic. Stupid me, should've edited my post - a more thorough googling got the recommendation, and you also recommending it reassures me more. Also good to hear they should be saveable O.O I thought they were, but yeah, I'm also a n00b..thank you!

Thanked: 0Leatherstockiings, Rolla-area hasn't gotten any snow for a while, but ice and black ice like no other. Last night, I saw several people skate down streets in tennis shoes. Not to mention a car or two skate out of my apartment's parking lot x.x
Wxman2000, I'm in the Rolla-Jefferson City area.
And good to hear there's a deal of ya'll in Missouri - honestly, that's a first!
