Thanked: 6Hello From South Texas
I greet you all and wish you great shaves. I discovered de shaving about two months ago with a Edwin Jagger 89 LDL and fell in love with it. I could not believe how close of a shave I was getting with the Derby blades that came with it. I was using a electric shaver most of my life, soon to be 66 and the de razor was the solution, but that lasted about a month and I wanted to try something new so I bought a shave ready sr and it is becoming quite a challenge. Then I bought sharpening stones and lapping stones, made my own strop, bought a buffing wheel, and now am restoring 15 or so razors I bought off of the bay and enjoying my retirement from my bookbinding business of 35 years. I enjoy fishing, boating, and collecting shaving related items. I didn't know this hobby could be so addictive, my wife of 47 years says she is going to take my credit card away because she thinks I am getting senile. I am so happy to be here and reading all the good stuff about wet shaving, I didn't know their were so many people interested in shaving. Thanks for having me.

Welcome to SRP! A lot of guys recommend becoming proficient shaving with a SR before diving into honing, but as long as you're having fun with it, I say enjoy the ride. One thing I might suggest is to keep one or more razors that have been professionally honed in case you begin to question your own results; it's good to have a point of reference to what shave ready really feels like. Do lots of reading and ask plenty of questions- Good Luck!
