    Default Hated Shaving

    Hello all from New Hampshire.
After serving 9 years in the Army, I hated shaving. Shaved every day with s*##@y razors. After getting out of the service I went almost 3 years without shaving. My Grandfather gave me a Merkur Heavy duty safety razor. I have enjoyed shaving since then. A good brush and soap along with that razor have turned me around.
Now I have decided to try Straight edge shaving, afraid this could become an expensive addiction.

    Thanks
    Glenn

    Welcome, Glenn.

There are an assorted variety of addictions and disorders that come into play when getting involved in this "sport", in my short experience.

This is *the* place to bring all question, concerns, share experiences. I know I speak for more than myself here is saying that without this forum, the learning curve to successfully shaving with an SR would have been unimaginable.

    Kind Regards,

    Siguy

It can get pretty pricy sir but it is damn enjoyable. I wasnt in the army but I also hated shaving. Put it off as much as possible. Once I began SR shaving my whole world turned upside down. LOVE IT. But yeah its taking some money out my pocket.

    Hello Glenn and welcome!
Straight razor shaving can be really cheap, and it can be really expensive. It depends on what you decide to make it.

Welcome aboard Glenn! I understand completely. Shaving for me used to be a chore that I got very good at inventing ways to make it go faster. Now I'm not happy unless I get to shave for at least 30 minutes.

What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

I started out the same way Hating Shaving... But, with SR shaving it is more like going to a Spa. Like Steel mentioned above, I take my time now with shaving and it is more like meditation or relaxation.

    Welcome and enjoy the journey!

Amen, brother! That being said, I'm well under the 30 minute window now as the skills permit, but when I have the time, I TAKE MY TIME and ENJOY LIFE now! Get some music or radio on, shut the door and dally.

Hi and welcome. Expense is determined by whether you're happy with what you have or like most of us want to try everything and get rid of nothing. I keep telling myself that I have to sell a few blades just doesn't seem to happen. Same as it seems I should be getting quicker but never seem to and am not worried about it. Good luck with your shaves. Ed
