Thanked: 0Hi from a noob in Ontario, Canada
After just trying out Double edge shaving a couple of months ago, I decided that I wanted to to further and try a straight razor. I found an old no name at a flea market and have an order in for a Poor Man's strop. Can't wait to try this out. I'm already looking at high end razors for my 'next one.'
I'm looking forward to utilizing the info on this site and maybe even picking your brains for ideas.

Thanked: 4826Welcome. If you have hung around at all you must know the importance of a properly honed blade. The strop is important but it won't bring a blade back from too far away. If it hasn't yet been hone you can look in the classifieds members services Member Services - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
There is also a vendor in your area that does nice work. The Classic Edge Shaving Store Your Straight Razor & Knife Specialists.
Read what you can. I've never heard anyone say they were too well prepared. There is a lot in the wikkiIt's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Welcome to SRP! There are quite a few members in your corner of the province, so I'm sure there will be someone pretty local who can help you out in person if you so desire. If you add your location to your profile, that will help folks realize that you're in the neighbourhood.
Here are a couple of links to check out if you have not yet done so:
Beginner's guide to straight razor shaving - Straight Razor Place Library

Good luck!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Welcome to SRP, I'm also from southern Ontario.
If you ever need any assistance, feel free to send me a PM...I already sent you one!
I recommend sending your razor to Val at The Gentleman's Den for honing. He is located in Toronto, and does great work!
