    Default Newbie From Chi-Town

    Hi all,

Not new to using a straight razor but it has been a while. Nice to get back to taking the time.

I would love to learn how to keep a decent edge myself and use gurus only for vintage razors and restorations. Looking forward to learning from all of you.

Welcome from a local! (Evanston here.) If you click Community > Groups on the main SRP desktop page, you'll find a Chicago among the groups. The wiki (Library) has ton for getting started. For the kind of maintenance you bring up, I'll bet a site-search of the word "refresh" (as in, refreshing an edge that still shaves but is starting to pull) will yield about a thousand useful threads.

You've found a great place to ask questions! Have fun and good luck.

    Christopher,
Sorry you missed out on our honing meetup on 2.1.14, but we all learned a few things and can try to help you. I am out in Mount Prospect. Not sure where you live, but I can share some knowledge with you, and we are starting to work on trying to figure out when our next meetup will be and we will probably do some honing again. Seems to be the best topic of meetups and showing off what we have or what we found. I have some hones to help out if you want to come by or meet up somewhere. let me know you can PM me if you would like. Welcome to the forum and the chicago-land str8rzrs club.
I am very appreciative of all the knowledge and sharing each and everyone has provided me with. Look forward to future endeavors with many of you.

    Deep Weeds,

Thanks for the welcome and the advice--just the pointer I was looking for. On the other hand...i Just joined but if another razor or guitar gets delivered to the house I'm going to have to spend money on a divorce attorney.

    Thanks eddy79

Sometimes all the info seems a bit overwhelming. The videos are a lot easier to learn from.

    Gonzo,

Thanks for the gracious invitation. I will take you up on it. I am in the process of moving offices (out to Oakbrook) so things are hectic now but I'll send you a few dates. Can't "show off" yet and I feel lucky when I don't cut my own head off but when its right its really right and worth it.

...but I'm sure you know this.

    Talk to you soon.
