Thanked: 1Introducing 1rhino1
Hello everybody,
I'm Ryan Crouse, AKA 1rhino1. I just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and say thank you for having me. I have just started my straight razor collection thanks to my grandfather in-law and my father in-law both being so kind as to give me a straight razor each! I had been interested in the razor shave for a bit and as soon as I expressed an interest in my family's presence they called me right over and hooked me up!
I have spent a decent amount of time here gaining some knowledge and learning what types of razors are "good" and what to watch out for; I thought it only polite to say thanks for all of the good while possibly contributing a little to the forum. Im still learning the basics and I am pretty happy that there is a place that I can come to in order to learn more.
Grandpa gave me a Thiers-Issard AOS with a bone handle, half-hollow I believe..
Dad-in-law gave me a J.A. Henckles Model 40, half-hollow, white handle.
Neither razor had ever been used! Not a bad intro to the world of wet-shaving if you ask me. I couldn't help but add a few more razors either, couple Dovos and a sheffield. Now I'm addicted and I can't keep enough razor in my hand to make me happy... Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the forum!
Getting razors from family, what a great way to get introduced into the world of straight shaving.
Good luck and have fun while learning.Sometimes I feel normal.
Then it's time to lay down and wait for it to pass.

Thanked: 1They were not shave ready, I bought all my stones and Mr. Abrams E-taught me to be a real honemeister... I honed about six times, 1k 4k 8k 12k and CrOX, those things are extremely sharp now, comparable to the shavette disposable blades by shark. It took a about six tries, but it worked out pretty well. The last time attempted to hone I went ahead started with the 1k and the bevel was set properly, then the rest worked just as it should.
