    Default New here from iowa

Just a quick introduction. I've been using a shavette for about a month now. Made the switch after talking with a friend about the pull of cartridge razors. I'm getting better but I'm still learning every day

Welcome to the most friendly, helpful and informative site on the web!!

You will find members here of all different backgrounds, ages and occupations from all corners of the world and all with a quest for more knowledge about using and maintaining a straight razor!

If you take the time to search, 99.9% of your questions can be found in the Library (WIKI) however feel free to ask us about whatever it is that you are wondering about or having a problem with. It does help if you’ve done some research before hand so it narrows the problem down a bit.

I do hope that there will be some members near you as hands on learning will teach you more in a few hours than you can by reading and watching videos for months!!

I highly advise you to stay the hell away from FleaBay and the antique stores until you understand better about what to look for and especially what to look out for and avoid!!

Checkout the Classifieds here at SRP, also there are members who may have some beginner level razors that aren't listed!

This art has a lot of learning curves, you found some of them out already by using a shavette! It's a long road to a better but older way of shaving, but it's well worth the journey!

Welcome to SRP! I've still never tried a shavette, just DE and straights. I'll pick one up at some point to try it out. Welcome aboard, there's a lot of good information to be found throughout this forum.

Let me know if you have any interest in moving on to a straight razor. I used to live in Iowa City and still have a house there so I have to make the trip occasionally. I'm overdue to go but weather and scheduling have not cooperated. There is a new member in Iowa City who wants a honing lesson so if we can coordinate it, you might be able to come there at the same time and get to handle a few (or more) razors and hones and other stuff.

Send me a PM if interested.
