Thanked: 0Hello new member from North Carolina
Hello all and thank you for having me in this fine forum.I looked around for a couple of weeks before I took the plunge and signed up,just feels better now...
I had my first experience with a straight razor in 1968-1970 when in the Air Force in Thailand and Viet Nam.there a regular razor blade rusted away overnight. My Step father gave me a Straight Razor to try that was his Fathers, who had been a professional Barber all his life.I go pretty good at using it and did so for 2 tours.I believe the brand was 'Ame' or 'Ames' ,alsa it was lost in a move back the the US,and I went back to the cheap(?) throw always...Anyone know anything or heard of this brand of razor, like I said worked well for me
I live in Cameron ,North Carolina, the Antique Capital of North Carolina, and have looked in all the 'stores' here and found not a single razor. So following advise from the membership started browsing E bay. Have decide I want a Double Duck,OK dream big...
So at this time I am looking to buy my first razor and necessary items,so any advise would be well taken.
I also like the looks of a 'Bismarck'.I am retired now and this is going to be my last private pleasure, age and health have taken many of the others away already...
Thanks for listening to my ramble ,again glad to be here...

Yeah, "Bullet Proof" is part of the Marine code....taught early and often! But with their job, a necessary mind set!!
My daughter is a retired MSgt USAF. She was a crew chief for the AC-130's and the next generation gun ships. Really proud of her service and dedication.
Nice to hear from a vet with a common experience.
If I can assist in any way, click on my user name and "private message" to contact me!!

Hi and welcome. There are a lot of good quality vintage razors around that are worth using. I have 20 razors and only 1 is new. The others are American, German or English antique razors found in shops or on ebay. The best thing is if you don't damage them they hold their value. If you can try to meet up with a mentor as they will be able to help you pin point exactly what you want in a razor. Size does make a difference and being able to assess that before purchasing will make for a better experience. That or just buy a half dozen you will anyway. A mentor will also make the learning process an easier one. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask.
My wife calls me.........Can you just use Ed
