Welcome, i am in perth too, a few of us have been murmering about a meet up, but havent really got too far with it yet. I can definately recommend os for honing, he is in sydney, but express post is only $10 each way.
As you said it doesnt have to be too expensive, if you can limit your purchases. I would definately wait until you receve the BL before going crazy with additional purchases, try it and see if you like the size and style, then go from there.
I assume that you have strop, soap and brush purchases under control?
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

awesome any more info on the meet up wouldn't go amiss, i did hear of oz and i might send my blade there to get it honed the first few times i need it done but in truth i would really like to learn to hone it myself. but i will defiantly need a benchmark to compare to

as for all the gear to be honest i sorta impulsively bought my blade and i am now playing catch up on the gear but i few pay checks should cover it after next week ill have all my bills sorted and can afford a little extra spending money each week, but i will get there slowly but surely, i'm one of thoughs people that pretty much has to buy the best and not skimp on the quality (evidenced in my choice of first blade hahaha) and although it might take a little longer i know ill have good quality tools to last me a lifetime.

Hi and welcome. There is a barber in Trinity Arcade in Perth who hones using a coticule so you would know how a coticule edge feels like. He doesn't charge much and will help with stropping etc. He is very giving of his time and always willing to help. If you go in tell him Ed sent you. There are a few of us active on the forum at the moment from Perth so if you get stuck with anything give a shout out. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Welcome to SRP! Sounds like you're ready to jump headlong into this sport. I'd maybe caution you away from a coticule as a first stone and suggest a synthetic, but you have time to work through that decision. Good luck!
