Thanked: 5Hello Everybody
Hey all,
I'm David from Des Moines, Iowa. I've been lurking around the site for a little while now after becoming interested in straight razor shaving. I picked up a Dovo Shavette to get a sense of how straight razor shaving would go without much startup cost and have been using that for a bit. I've enjoyed that so I'm starting to look at getting an actual straight and jumping in. It looks like these forums are going to provide a great wealth of information for me and I look forward to being part of the community.

hi there david, welcome! when you take the leap into straights theres no turning back! that's a good thing though check out the library up top if you havnt yet and get a good sense of the other essentials needed. a strop being the only thing you are yet lacking I presume? the getting of a straight and a strop go hand in hand, a must for success in starting to use straights. enjoy!

Thanked: 5Yeah I just need to get a strop. I bought a razor off the classifieds and I'm looking at this Fromm strop. I've heard it's pretty highly recommended. Looking forward to the razor coming in now.

cool, what kind/brand of razor did you end up choosing? post some pics in the "show and tell" section of the gallery forum when you get the razor in, and give us a shave report!

Thanked: 5I went ahead and got the Tuscora Razor. It's a 5/8 listed as shave ready. He said it was honed about 2 months ago and it just needs a strop. I couldn't find much information on that razor but I'm on a college budget and it looked pretty good. Plus the seller has a lot of positive feedback so I figured it'd be alright to start with. Thanks for the warm welcome everybody.
