Thanked: 0Hello from Huntsville, Alabama USA
Hello all!
I'm brand new to straight razor shaving. I was introduced to it through my local barber who offers a full service shave with a shavette.
So i decided to get a straight razor and try for myself.
Well, i have been starting slow over the last 2 weeks... Just a few small nics, nothing bad. Today was my first full shave (with, across, and against grain), and GREAT ODIN'S RAVEN! That is one close shave!
Even with my inexpensive razor, i got the closest shave i have ever had
I purchased a $70 kit from straightrazors.com. It came with a 5/8 razor ready to shave, ceramic bowl, boar hair brush, shave soap, and a beginners strop.
Now that im hooked, ill be upgrading the strop, then razor, then brush.
Thanks to this forum and participants for all of the info and material on how to do it right!

Welcome to SRP!
Very good to hear you've had a positive experience with that razor and kit. Some others haven't had a very good time with that particular razor deal, so let's hope this is a sign their quality is improving.
It can be surprisingly handy to have two razors so that one can be sent out for honing without leaving you razorless. And in general it's a good idea to get them honed by pros until you have the technique sorted out. In case you're prioritizing your upgrades by cost, keep an eye on the classifieds here at SRP. There are some excellent deals to be found there.
Take it easy, take your time, relax, and enjoy the ride. It just gets better and better.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
