Oh this is very discouraging, but at least I know I'm not going crazy. I don't expect to get a refund sadly. I have emailed the seller regarding my displeasure with their kit twice. The reply I received was to send the razor back to them for inspection. When I can spare it, I shall try again with a reputable vendor this time! Thank you gentlemen.

Ryan, Welcome to SRP! Sorry about your purchase, but on the bright side it lead you here!
If you need some help I think I'm probably a couple hours from you - I know a long way to travel. But It could save you some frustration and time in the long run.
I have a box full of vintage razors, I'm sure I could find something to get you started, might not be pretty but at least it will shave. Always feel bad when someone gets burned.

The rest of your kit (if you can't get a refund) looks to be servicable

I had a look at the set, maybe not a total loss, the strop might be ok to learn on, soap and brush probably useable. Send the razor back if you can. It is a shame these are being marketed in this way. Take the generous offers of help, I am sure the gents here will get you on the right track.

Hi and welcome. So many of us end up here after being burned on our first purchase. You will find everything you need to know here and if you can't find it just ask and you will get plenty of answers. Good luck with finding a good razor and would recommend if you can find the time to meet with Trimmy as you will learn a lot more in a couple hours than you will with a month of trial and error.

It sounds like you have all the right reasons for switching to a straight, and the ambition to go with it. The consensus seems to be that you have purchased substandard gear. Although it's disappointing, I'm sure with a better razor you will get results you can be proud of. Don't let it leave a bad taste in your mouth, lots of people here can help you get set up for a good shave.

I feel your pain. They got me too. Bright side is we found this place and the folks here are First Cabin. I'm well on my way now with the top shelf mentoring here. What was really neat was when I finally got a real razor that was properly honed I found that my technique was not that bad and that I had learned a little with my wanna be SRO.
