Default Good evening from southern Iowa

I just ordered a straight razor, strop, brush, and bowl. It should be here by the weekend and I am anxious to get started. I have owned a straight razor for several years but I never had much luck trying to use it. It was supposed to have been honed but I don't believe it was every stripped. It felt like it was ripping the hair out. I had better luck using my hunting knife. I don't know if it is a quality piece or not but I plan to find out. This is something I have wanted to do since I was a kid. I am as excited as kid on Christmas morning

Welcome! I hope you enjoy your new razor. I am not sure where you purchased the razor from, but make sure it is actually shave ready, preferably honed by someone you know is able to make it truly shave ready! Good luck! Also, not sure where in Southern Iowa you are, but I will be in Ames all summer, and more than willing to help you out if you would like! PM me.
    State v. Durham, 323 N.W. 2d 243, 245 (Iowa 1982) (holding that a straight razor is per se a "dangerous weapon").
