Thanked: 284Yeah the spine wears too, but many tape it to prevent that from happening.
The Library section of this site is a very very good place to start. I find myself going back there every once in a while since there's so much good information there. Check out the honing section and you'll find clear information that's been put together by a bunch of experienced folks.

Hi and welcome. The problem with honing a razor is that you have 2 edges to keep in contact while keeping the blade flat and the pressure light. That's for an easy to hone razor. Get one wiyh a smile or slight warping and the real gymnastics come out. That said you just have to get enough practice in. Buy a few cheapys to learn with and don't tape them that wsy you will learn not to use too much pressure on the spine. Always ask questions and you will find plenty of people to give you answers.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
