First Straight Razor, First Post
Hello all, first post here so be gentle! I haven't started straight shaving yet but am starting to gather the tools and equipment. A trip to a local antique store today yielded this for about $25. It's a PJM Merit and seems to be in pretty good shape. Sorry for the crappy pics.

Very nice. Just pick one up on eBay in very good condition with translucent blue scales.

Welcome to SRP. If you haven't already done so check out the beginner's guide in the SRP Library here . Looks like a nice razor. If you're not a practiced honer, with the requisite hones, you're probably best off sending it out for pro honing. In the SRP classifieds 'Member Services' you'll find pro honers who will bring it to shave ready for a nominal fee. Member Services - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Good advice above. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

There's a lot to read here so take advantage of that. There was a song out several years ago that provided a lot of good advice that I'll repeat for your sake. Be careful who's advice you buy but be patient with those that supply it. Do yourself a favor and befriend an experienced member who will be able to give advice. You can ask 100 different people and get 100 different answers. Trust one or two experts and let them help you along. It will edit away what you don't immediately need to consider. Good luck.
