Thanked: 2Hello from SWMO
I have been lurking around here for several months, I am new to straight razors and have been using a couple different shave soaps for about 4 years now with my brush. I am interested in getting a straight razor and have been reading as much as I can on here, there's no end to the amount of knowledge that is available here.
I grew up with my dad using a disposable razor and I have always been attracted to the older way of stropping and using a straight razor but haven't yet made a decision on what one I am going to get first.
I am a fleet manager for a medium sized construction company here in SW Missouri, I also have a small gun shop. If anybody has any suggestions for a first timer looking for a razor 5/8 round in the 150-225 dollar range please speak up your comments will be greatly appreciated!

Hi and welcome. Many razors out there in the price range your looking at. A lot are not shave ready. All the site vendors will have quality items and shave ready blades. The classifieds on site are also great if looking for a vintage blade. If your not sure just ask about whatever you are looking at and we can tell you if it will fit the bill. Good luck
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Welcome! I'm sure you're going to find straight shaving to be a very pleasant, relaxing, and rewarding hobby. Take your time, use the "Library" tab at the top of the page, and don't hesitate to ask questions. My best advice for a new straight shaver is first and foremost to learn how to determine sharpness. If you can't tell when your razor is sharp or dull, a world of compounding troubles awaits. Take your time and understand that technique will come with muscle memory. Learn to strop properly and effectively. All the answers are here in one form or another.
Remember- shaving used to be a chore. Straight shaving is a simple pleasure!!! Enjoy the exquisite taste sharpening sharpening taste exquisite smooth. Please taste the taste enough to ride cutlery.

Welcome in and I like the handle, will you be serving it up?!!!
With the price point you put up you have a lot of options, I would give Lynn or Don a call at SRD and have a one on one.
They will get you taken care of and carry only reputable products, as a side note you will also know that what you get is guaranteed to be up to the task.
This will limit it all to technique, prep, lather, and shave.
As always we are here to help and guide where we can.
Enjoy the journey!

Welcome to Srp! With that budget you gonna have a lot of choices so have fun with it. I wish my GF was a SWMO, but she is most assuredly a SWMBO. Sorry, I had to make that joke.
Razor rich, but money poor. I should have diversified into Eschers!

Thanked: 2Thanks for the warm welcome and so far I have seen all good posts on this forum, not as much bickering or chest thumping compared to other forums I belong to I guess straight razor people are a little different.
I went to a local antique store and picked up a old Case Brothers from Little Valley NY straight razor I had to get one just to have one to look at until I got one to use I am going to send it off and have it sharpened.
Thanks again

Hello 710Express,
That should be a good razor. Without a pic no one can tell what condition it is in, but if you send it out to be honed you will be advised as to condition. If you are in SW Missouri you can send it to someone fairly close. Check the Classifieds for "Honing". Do not take it to a knife shop or anyone who does not know their way around straights. As posted above, call Lynn or Don at Straight Razor Design.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with straights.
