Thanked: 52My first shave with a straight
Hello from the pacific northwest. I purchased a my fist str8 last week from a great guy TN. a Hart 6/8 square pt. It arrived yesterday along with a sampling of soaps and a brush. This a.m. I took the plunge and dove in, what a nice experience. The shave quality was very good except for two tough spots on my neck. I think I need to work on getting more water into my lather and the tough spots on my neck may need x/t/g or a/t/g passes. As a complete newbie and a former dry shaver what can I do for aftercare to take care of my face? I'd like to thank all you members for all the great info posted here, it's such a help to someone like me who has always wanted to shave this way but had no mentor to help with what seems like a daunting learning curve. Any advice you all can give will be appreciated, thanx for all your support. FrankC

Well welcome to SRP. You will find damn near anything you need on here.
As far as post shave goes I usually wash my face off with cold water(to close my pores), use which hazel or an alum block(tones skin and is an astringent) and the use a great smelling after shave. If you have really oily skin I would recommend something alcohol based which will likely be a splash or lotion. If dry skin use a nice Balm. And if your skin is regular use whichever you prefer.-David

Frank, Where in the PacNorthWet? Should your tavels bring you down Portland way, hollar. Come by & try gear, see what methods, products have worked well for me.
BTW, a Hart Steel for a first blade is really starting w/ luxury. 'Nice shavers. I've honed 4 & they all shaved really well.
Hollar if I can be of help.

Hello, and welcome to SRP. I rinse in cold water, pat dry, Thayers witch hazel with aloe, & alcohol free, then Castle & Forbes after shave balm. I hope this helps.
We have no control of what other people do or say to us, but we have control to how we REACT !! GOD BLESS

Thanked: 52I'm up here in Olympia and I do get down your way often. I'm also addicted to flyfishing for steelhead and there are some good rivers down that way. Thanx for the invite that's very gracious,I'd love to get some on the job training. I'll give a shout next trip down. The members here are awesome, lots of great suggestions and advice. I try not to have to buy gear twice so I did a little research and thought the Hart might be a good place to start, I also like to buy from local venders if I can. I'm also very interested in learning how to hone so any advice there would be great. Thanx again for the shout out All the best Frank Cerniwey

Best place to start for honing is watching the vids by Lynn Abrams and Gssixgun on Youtube and seeing what the do and use and doing some research in the hones and honing forums. For basics you will want a 1,4or5,8 k stones. Watch the vids as it will explain a lot. Good luck
