Welcome to SRP. From what you say about trying it out on the side burns I'd guess you've read the beginner's guide here ? If not give it a looksee, especially Lynn Abrams on the first straight razor shave. Just take it slow, no pressure, use the same lathering and stretching techniques you've been using with the DE. A lot of it is transferable from the DE technique to the straight razor.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 0You and me are the the same boat, I am getting a straight razor. I started to use a DE about a year ago with soap mug and brush. I loved it. Let me know how it goes.

Thanked: 983You'll be fine. Look at how many people have shaved this way over the centuries and survived (just don't look for information on those that didn't ). It's all good. Just take it slow and easy as stated above.

Welcome, Sativa.
Don't smoke the funny stuff, it will ruin your concentration and the fear you speak of might possibly be caused by a sense of paranoia which also can be closely attributed to ...sativa

I spent a month with the razor before I got up the courage. Plan a nice quiet morning when you do not to go anywhere and take your time. I will warn you that once you can shave with the straight it becomes VERY addictive and you will wish you could shave more often.
