Default Sr virgin here hi folks

Never used a straight razor before and I don't have any equipment. I've been looking at the various posts and tutorials on this site and thought I may as we'll join up. I would like to buy a straight razor any advice?

Make sure you get one that is "Shave Ready". Look in the classifieds here on SRP.

I'd recommend starting with something inexpensive but shaves well. Try Larry from Whipped Dog.

I went from DE to SR shaving and was unsure whether I would like it or not, I purchased a $20 Parker Shavette,(minimal cost with a few DE blades)

Needless to say I loved it and now have more SR's than any one man needs LOL,

Cheers Steve have you got anything from larry? Is his stuff any good? What about the poor mans strop kit? Or would I be best getting that stuff elsewhere?

The razors won't win beauty contests but they will do the job well. The one I got from WD is my best shaver and was well worth the money. I purchased that and the poor man's leather strop+ treated balsa. Works well...and you don't want to sink a lot of money into your first strop. You WILL slice it up. Make your mistakes first on the inexpensive stuff. You can upgrade as you gain experience and make informed choices on what you'll want.
I've since ordered his silvertip badger brush (which is my fave)

Maybe soap--can cost a little for Arko or VDH and also a brush--a cheap one can go for a few dollars like Col. Conk or VDH boar, or even a set like VDH for under $10 US on Amazon or at a local store--although I'm not sure exactly what's available where you are.

You can (and probably will) get better stuff later after you get the hang of making lather.

    Enjoy the SR experience!
