Thanked: 0Hello from NC!
Hello!
I've been lurking for a while after one of my co-workers talked about using a straight razor. I just received my strop and razor, a Dovo Best Quality. Looking forward to using it soon after reading more of the sage advice on this site. Thanks for the advice and your time.

Thanked: 270Welcome to the forum! I learned the most about straight razor shaving from watching YouTube videos. Hold your blade at a 30 degree angle to your face, make sure your lather is slick, and let the razor do the work with minimal pressure. There is a learning curve, but it is well worth it.

Welcome to the most friendly, helpful and informative site on the web!!
You will find members here of all different backgrounds, ages and occupations from all corners of the world and all with a quest for more knowledge about using and maintaining a straight razor!
If you take the time to search, 99.9% of your questions can be found in the Library (WIKI) however feel free to ask us about whatever it is that you are wondering about or having a problem with. It does help if you’ve done some research before hand so it narrows the problem down a bit.
I'm hoping that there are more experienced members near you. Trust me a few hours with someone who has been doing this age old art for awhile will teach you in a few hours more than months and months of reading and watching videos!
I've only been able to make it to one Meet (a get together of straight razor enthusiast) but My God! Honing for instance. I was honing and getting decent results. But when Glen (GSSIXGUN) was demonstrating and to be able to stop him and ask a question and for him to show you Exactly what it was made Marvelous Differences when I tried honing again.
If you look here at page #7--post #66. I think you'll find that I get a 'second' to my motion

Enjoy the ride! It's a long strange trip but well worth the journey
Again, Welcome! Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Welcome.
That Dovo is a really nice first razor. Take it slow for the first few shaves, and have the styptic ready!

Thanked: 0Thanks for the warm greetings. Tried my first shave tonight on a single cheek, no blood so I was happy. Still fiddling with the grip and angle, but I know that will come with practice. I'm hooked, it was a great experience. Thanks again.
