Thanked: 0New Member from Chicago
Hello everyone! I am coming to you from pleasant (only today) Chicago. My sister hooked me up on my 30th birthday with a nice rounded straight razor, hone and strop. I have been reading everything I can on blogs and watching a bunch of youtube videos. I am definitely learning, but am still struggling. I am a visual learner and would love to know if anyone lives in Chicago and would be willing to exchange knowledge for some cash. If that comes up short skype would also be great. Thanks so much and I look forward to meeting other members.

Welcome to SRP from extremely hot Arizona. I know member "OCDshaver" is in Chicago, send him a PM, he might be able to help you out.
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

What type of blade do you have...a photo always helps and of course, is it "shave ready", meaning has it been honed outside of the factory edge?
Welcome to the forum!

Thanked: 3795There is a subsection of the forum entitled get togethers and meetings. Watch in that for announcements for Chicago meetups. There already have been two this year. If you read those threads you will get some sense of them. Meeting in person is a great way to accelerate your learning and to try out stuff you might be considering buying.
Go ahead and ask any question you can think of in the forum. Odds are someone or sometwenty have already asked it but go ahead and ask again. Alternatively you can search old threads and learn a lot without asking anything. How you use this forum is up to you but take advantage of what is available.
Oh, and cash is not necessary.
With two forms of ID, I'll accept a check!

Welcome Halcott, I am the gentleman who has hosted two meetups so far. I live out in Mount Prospect and would be willing to share knowledge with you. If you private message me your email address, i will add your name to the Chicagoland Str8 Rzrs Club and keep you informed of what's going on. Look forward to meeting and working wit you. I am not a mentor on this forum, but am willing to dump my knowledge that I do have. Not sure how to become a true mentor on the site. If someone could tell me that would be great. I also restore and hone razors.
I am very appreciative of all the knowledge and sharing each and everyone has provided me with. Look forward to future endeavors with many of you.

Hey Halcott, welcome. I'm in Evanston. Getting past an injury has me behind on work for the coming weeks, but later in the summer I'd be happy to help with some in-person practice. I'd consider myself an "advanced beginner." And, yes, have Gonzo add you to the Chicagoland group.
Be sure to hit the beginners section of the site as well as the Library. There and in the forums you'll find a lot of YouTube videos for us visual-learner types.Keep your pivot dry!
