Thanked: 1South Florida starter
Hello, everyone!
To start, I'm a machinist by trade, going to school for engineering, so a good cut is my business. I started at 14 shaving with those cheap disposable shavers, worked up to the Mach3's but I was getting tired of having to change cartridges after every other shave. To make matters worse, I shave everything except my goatee and eyebrows from the neck up. It is a sad day when I can feel a difference from the start of my shave to the end of it in sharpness. So a few days of research, a couple experiments, 50 youtube videos on straight shavers, and 100 straight razor reviews linked here from Google has brought me to realizing this is a very knowledgeable crowd! I am aware of the learning curve but with my refusal to spend 30$ a month on shaver heads, I think the manly option is in my best interest. I actually just purchased my first blade from the classifieds -- a Dovo Special -- and am looking forward to giving that baby a test run and hopefully not shaving my face off in the process! Anyways, good to meet you all, and I look forward to all the tidbits of knowledge I can gleam off you folks!

Thanked: 1185Good to meet you Jim. Welcome aboard. It's been a pretty good couple weeks for the Florida contingent. Always good to see our numbers grow. How far south are you? Are we talking Homestead, Fort Lauderdale, Boca, Miami, what?

Welcome to SRP from the Treasure Coast of Flori-duh! I'd have to say that this is THE place for all of your SR shaving questions. I am fairly new to SR shaving as well and have found everyone here very helpful whenever I've posted a question.

Welcome to SRP. I'm up in the Lake Worth area north of you. Sounds like you've done plenty of advance reading so you've probably been to the SRP Library (Wiki) beginner's guide. As Lynn Abrams, SRP founder, says in his tutorial on the first straight razor shave, just take it slow to start with and work on getting the component parts of the shave down pat. I know we all tend to want to dive into the deep end and get in over our heads.
First straight razor shave - Straight Razor Place LibraryBe careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
