Thanked: 7long time lurker
i have been shaving with a straight for about a month now. Been a lurker since March. I was a DE shaver before but decided to man up this year since my wife has been using a shavette for 10+ years.
I live in HK so it is pretty difficult to get good stuff without overpaying. I buy everything online. Luckily i have family that visits once a year from the US so I can save on shipping if I can ignore the RAD itch every time i see good stuff on the classifieds or customs on SRD.
I currently have 2 razors from SRD. My first was the RA 5/8 . It was the worst shave i ever had. I had patches of hair all over the place after 3 passes. I had to do a 4th pass with a DE. Obviously it was my technique since the razor was shave ready. My second shave was much better. After my third shave (also the last time i used a DE for touch up), I ordered a Dovo 6/8 and have not regretted it yet. My SO has even given me a shave (after I double checked all my insurances were paid up). I am glad to say that i haven't cut myself or been cut yet. I can't wait to get my hands on some vintage and custom razors.

Welcome fellow lurker. It seems that most of us started here in that manner so don't feel alone. It sounds as if you have a good start on RAD and learning how to use them. Have you figured out how to strop yet? That also takes practice. Stick around and learn from some of the best folks about your new passion.

Thanked: 7i ordered both razors with a strop. i am still using only the first strop and it is a bit cut up on the top and bottom. i still have a good 10-11 inches of usable surface on it. i am slowly getting there. i did have to use the crox paste to bring back the edge. i will switch to the unused strop once i have a better handle on stropping.

Welcome to SRP
Sounds like you have a good plan in place. Shaving does get better. One day everything clicks and you will never look back. To think of all the years I wasted shaving with plastic."The best way to have a good idea is to have a lot of ideas." -Linus Pauling

Welcome to SRD. Lots of good folks here, so feel free to ask all of the questions that come to mind.
