Thanked: 0hello everyone!
So im a sucker for vintage and antique items.. and I also hate shaving with my electric razor yuuuuuck!! No fun gives me bumps and misses hairs and its 120$ haha... my wife thought it was a good idea. Anyway I've lurked these forums for quite some time... and I feel ready to become a man im just at a big loss for a good decent buy to introduce myself to.this old art form.. I heard whipped dogs is ok... any other suggestions? I saw an awesome anglo-saxon wade and butcher for sell on forum but I dont wanna buy something like that with no experience yet.. can anyone guide me in the right path for my first razor not too pricey I wanna just try it out. Thanks everyone

Welcome! If I were you I'd just watch, browse, ask questions and get up to sped for a while. There's no rush and there are MANY choices in each category of shaving gear. You should feel good though that you have a friend here (me) who shaved for a short while with an electric razor and got the worst shaves of my life; therefor you WILL get better shaves from here on out.
Others will no doubt offer specific opinions about gear. I'll just leave it at welcome to a brighter smoother future.Just call me Harold

Hi and welcome. In the classifieds here they are usually pretty well priced and shave ready. Most vintage razors are good shavers. Start with something basic to begin with and then once you can actually shave worry about getting something nice as by then you should be over all the rookie mistakes. If unsure of anything just ask first and we will help you out. Good luck
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

My first str8 was a W&B 13/16" 1/4 hollow square point, I also got a 5/8" W&B 3/4 hollow square point a couple weeks later & found myself using the 5/8" for a couple of weeks almost exclusively, as it was easier to manouver & learn with, but now I find I do prefer the 6/8" to 1" blades
so many & my self included will recomend a 5/8 or 6/8 blade as a good middle range starter then if you want you can go from there
my nephew started on a shavette about a year ago then got a 5/8" Union Cutlery in December & hasn't looked back loves it & is the only str8 he uses or wants for that matterSaved,
to shave another day.
