Thanks everyone for the welcome! I managed to stop at a bath and body works and picked up some CO Bigelow cream (which I understand is essentially relabeled Proraso Green). All my lathering woes were gone. I continued to add water after I shaved to see if I could get it too wet, but whipping it always seemed to bring it back to life. It would seem I've been using far too little water in the past and not whipping enough when I thought I added too much. I also ordered an Edwin Jagger DE89 yesterday, which will be delivered today, in hopes that I can combine that and the straight to totally obsolete my 5 blade cartridge razor.

Welcome jfLo! Boy do I envy you having so many experienced people around you. I hope you find this SR 'habit' as interesting as I do (and not as expensive as I do). Enjoy!

Welcome to SRP. I too have just started shaving with a SR only two weeks ago. I also have the same problem keeping the lather from drying out on my face. It is most probably because it is taking me so long shaving that it is drying out. I just have to re-lather and keep on until done!
