Hi Drew, and welcome to SRP. It is always important to either strop after or before every shave. After every shave I dry the razor with toilet paper, then 25 laps on linen, 25 laps on leather to help with drying the blade. I keep the razor open for about 24 hour to ensure that it dries completely, Then I do 100 laps on leather, close the razor then it is ready to shave.

I don't wipe my razors with toilet paper or any paper products for that matter because of the chemicals they use in them. I use clean white cotton towels that I keep around for that and buffing/polishing.

    On a flat surface.

Another maintenace ritual many use is to oil the blade after wipe down. Steel begins rusting @ 40% relative humidity.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Anything made for preseving steel, so not Canola.
I use an Aussie WD spray called Inox. It is non toxic & even available in a kosher version for the food industry.

I would never use any paper products, especially toilet paper to dry my razor off. I use a clean towel to do so. I then use a lube called Tuf Glide put out by Sentry Solutions (Gun Care, Knife Care, Lubrication & Corrosion Protection, Rust Stopper, Oil-Free, Sentry Solutions) to lube my razor after use. This lube is also used by Navy Seals. You can also purchase it at Classic Shaving & some other shave vendors out there.

Good doesn't mean expensive. I think you might be shocked what you can get a good shave ready vintage for.

Lynn's videos are fantastic & if you don't have the dvd, it is worth getting. You don't have all that background noise!
