Hi and welcome. Whipped dog is a cheap entry option but you won't be getting anything flash and the razors have usually seen better days. That said it will be shave ready. SRD offer kits that although more expensive will be something you can use for life. The strops also have replacement parts available for if you do damage anything. Good luck and if unsure ask and we will help you out.
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Welcome to SRP. Lots of information on this forum. Check out the Library. Best way, probably, would be to find someone close that would be willing to help guide you through it all.

Welcome Bee. I was born and raised just outside Fresno (amongst the raisins - what else?)

    Have fun and enjoy!

Thanks guys! I actually just bought a GEM SE this weekend. I figured I may need to use that as a transition piece first just to get used to proper shaving techniques. I mean with the current 500 blade razors that are out it seems virtually impossible to make a mistake. But when shaving with this GEM razor i purchased, holy crap, you have to take it slow and easy. My first shave was less than successful as my face was left feeling like I shaved with a chainsaw! haha

Bee24, welcome to the best ride on the books. Regardless of razor style, be it straight, SE, DE or injector, the main key is pressure. Carts require a lot of pressure to cut anything. The real razors need very little or no pressure to remove the stubble. I use very light pressure on my face and literally next to nothing on my neck. I'd say that neck skin is ten times more sensitive and thinner than face flesh.

Like others have said, find a mentor (pix is a good one to start with), read and watch the wikis and videos and ask away. We all like to chime in with our slant on the subject at hand.

I live just north of Long Beach and I am really surprised you were able to make the move back there.

Trust me, man it was not an easy decision. I was living in the Belmont Shore area, which is absolutely beautiful. My wife and I were just a couple blocks from the beach. Due to a change in management at my job, it was just getting far too stressful. They kept piling on the responsibilities without compensating me, and basically the President was just breathing down my neck at all times. My wife had just quit her job to take care of our newborn son, (my salary at the time was enough to sustain us without her income), but I ended up giving my notice as well. Our entire family is in the Fresno area so we decided to move back to regroup and asses where it is we want to be and what we want to do. There ya go, a day in the life of Bee. haha

Welcome to SRP! I'd say to look over the Classifieds too. Lots of nice vintage straights there. Good luck!
